Ruric-Amari Sponsors Laylia for a Workshop Weekend and Dance Concert

Dance concert featured belly dance, hula, Tahitian and experimental dance.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- March 19, 2011 -- March 19 was the weekend of the perigee moon AND a weekend with Laylia for dancers in Ruric-Amari's School of Ethnic and Experimental Dance.

Ruric sponsored Laylia for a series of dance and percussion workshops for experienced dancers, and organized a dance concert and dinner to showcase Laylia, Ruric, and Ruric's dance troupes, Samovar and Anu.

The concert dances included Egyptian, Turkish and Tribal styles as well as some experimental pieces, several solos by senior Samovar dancers, a brand-new Ruric-Amari sword dance, and a lighthearted burlesque duet that featured both dancers taking off... their gloves. The concert featured an unexpected Polynesian component: Theresa of Samovar surprised the audience with a deliciously lyrical hula, and Ruric did a fast and flirtatious Tahitian otea. Laylia, the weekend's instructor and featured artist, wrapped up the concert with a dance that exemplified both her inimitable ooey-gooey style and her wicked sense of humor.
